We are Nick and Kristen, the married morning show, and having medical debt has personally affected our lives.
When we decided to have our daughter, Lilly, I immediately started having complications during the pregnancy. I started having contractions at 24 weeks and was rushed to the hospital.
I was told that I would not be leaving the hospital until I gave birth for the safety of my life and Lilly’s. I spent Halloween and Thanksgiving in the hospital, and finally, on December 7th, Lilly was born.
She was rushed to the NICU and stayed for two weeks due to breathing problems.
A few days before Christmas, we were able to take her home…and that’s when the medical bills started to pour in.
We were told that our entire medical stay was going to cost over $240,000.
We were shocked! We both were employed and had great insurance, but with a new baby, we had to spend hours on the phone with our insurance to figure out payments and negotiate prices.
In those moments, we vowed to do whatever we could to help those suffering from medical bills.
That’s why, over the last four years, we have paid off over $13 million in medical debt for the Pacific Northwest, and we will keep going until there is no more debt to pay off.
