I’m running for Undue because I see so many families struggling with health care costs in my job as a VP of Special Education at an elementary school in Southeast DC.  Medical bills can be crushing, and the families I work with are like so many — they wouldn’t have savings on hand to deal with an unexpected health crisis.

I was shocked to learn that 1/3 of all GoFundMe campaigns are to pay medical costs! People delay care and skimp on their prescriptions to avoid racking up more bills.  Medical debt is the number one cause of personal bankruptcy.

I love Undue’s model — every ten dollars donated will relieve at least $1,000 in medical debt! It’s a concrete way to help people today when fixing the broken healthcare system seems overwhelming. And, Undue Medical Debt works on the very policy issues that got us into this mess. They keep the patient at the center of their work.

I’m from Brooklyn and have always wanted to run the Marathon. Now is the time!

Give what you can! Every little bit helps.
