Philadelphia has long been at the forefront of healthcare and medical innovation. Home to the nation’s first hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, and a world-renowned network of hospitals, universities, and research institutions, our city has played a defining role in advancing medicine. Yet many Philadelphians still face a different challenge: the burden of medical debt. Medical debt remains one of the most common forms of financial hardship in the United States and disproportionately affects low-income and historically underserved communities. In a city where too many families must choose between healthcare and financial security, addressing this burden is critical.
Through our partnership with Undue Medical Debt, participating Global Shapers Hubs are raising funds to purchase and abolish medical debt for families across the country, and where possible, our own communities!
