My son Roman was born two months early and spent his first weeks of life in the NICU at NYU Langone. On top of the fear and uncertainty that comes with having a premature baby, my wife and I faced an added layer of anxiety as new health insurance went into effect just 90 minutes before we entered the hospital. I was terrified that some coverage loophole would leave us facing catastrophic bills.
After 44 agonizingly long days, Roman came home to us healthy and strong. But the anxiety didn’t stop there. My wife and I waited nervously for the bills to arrive. When they did, we were fortunate as our insurance held and we paid only our out-of-pocket maximum.
I know how fortunate I am as not everyone gets that outcome. A lot of New Yorkers are uninsured, underinsured, or barely getting by. They face that same fear, but without any safety net to fall back on. And that is why I was inspired to help.
I’m running for Undue Medical Debt to help abolish medical debt for my fellow New Yorkers and give others the peace of mind my family was lucky enough to find. Help me raise money on their behalf!
